ABOUT US
A virtuoso collection of Ghanaian musicians known as Nativ Afrik is led by the multi-talented drummer and composer Emmanuel Amponsah through his musical offering explores the traditional sounds of the seprewa and kologo. The band started its mainstream media career with the release of its debut EP titled DON'T TEAR FISH in 2017. 2018 awarded them the first prize in the YAMAHA E Band Competition where they became the first Ghanaian band to win the world music competition. The following year Nativ Afrik grabbed the
Higher Achievement Award for the Western Music Awards. They represented Ghana once again in Benin in 2020 and won the Modern Music of Traditional Inspiration which is considered to be the grand prize for the SICAs.
Nativ Afrik’s debut album KARMA features world-renowned Cameroonian bassist Etienne Mbappe, gifted South African singer Simthandile Mtolo and one of Japan’s greatest bassists, Ryunosuke Makino.
The band creates a melodic hybrid of compositions inspired by ancient Ghanaian folklore and stories passed down from generation to generation, teaching and instilling morals and values. The music takes you on a journey through African percussive and rhythmic elements, infusing diverse styles of kologo music, Highlife, Afrobeats, Jazz, Funk, Word Music, and Reggae.
